Book Mood is a fictitious bookstore that helps book lovers pick the perfect book to match their desired mood. Books are organized by genre and possible emotions they evoke in readers after they are done reading.

Thought Process

As a book reader myself, I've noticed that bookstores often organize their books by category, such as young adult, horror, romance, and so on. However, I'd like to know what emotions the book I intend to read will evoke.

For example, on certain days, I'd like to read a novel that will move me to tears. I already know which genre I prefer, so this additional categorization will help me narrow down the novels I want to read.

As a result, I decided to create a fictitious bookstore that would accomplish exactly that.

Design Process Pt.1: Branding

When coming up with the branding for this project, I went for a more retro look for the bookstore. This is because I have always find old bookstores to be alot more comfortable and cosy compared to modern bookstores.

The logo complements the retro image I'm striving for by featuring a 1930s-style mascot and matching bright colors.

Not only that, but the logo represents a fascination for books, which I hope to transmit to my audience when they visit the bookstore.

Design Process Pt.2: Posters

To promote Book Mood, I have come up with 3 distinct posters to advertise the fictitious bookstore.

The concept behind the Book Mood posters is to portray the numerous emotions contained within book contents in a vintage style that matches the store's brand. I was inspired by numerous classic movie posters for their retro style and layout, as well as graphic design posters for the different colours and textures that may fit the time period.

Design Process Pt.3: Style Guide

When coming up with the prototype for the Book Mood app, I followed a style guide that I created to ensure the consistency of both the brand and the app design, so as to be able to bring out the best user experience for my target audience.
