Installation

Intertwined Threads is a'mix and match' installation made in partnership with the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA).

This installation features a number of different avatars, each representing a different ethnicity in Singapore and Guangzhou. The avatar is mismatched by default, and it is up to the user to accurately match the avatar's various components (top, middle, and bottom).

When the user has correctly matched the avatar, they will be presented with an animation of the avatar and a voiceover discussing the ethnicity of the avatar.

Thought Process

Some context on this project: it was a cooperation between our diploma program, Interaction Design, and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

With the subject 'Guangzhou, Singapore, and I', we chose to create a'mix and match' installation to educate users about the many ethnicities in Singapore and Guangzhou.

Design Process

When designing the various avatars, we chose to go with 3D pixel art influenced by Minecraft, because our target audience is people our age.

To make things more exciting, our team used animations to make our avatars appear more alive. These animations are generated when a user correctly matches the avatar's three separate portions.

My role in the team

I was one of the two coders in this project, in responsible of obtaining the data from the sensors in the backend and pushing it to the frontend aka the installation page, as well as animating the swiping effect when the user changes the different portions of the avatar.

In addition to coding, I am responsible for sounds when the user correctly matches one of the portions.
